Convincing fusion of form and function
In its statement, the jury particularly praised the consistent attention to detail and the clarity of the design:
“Harmoniously integrated radii make SILQUA an aesthetically and functionally convincing sink. The intelligently designed faucet ledge with embossed drainage grooves is distinctive and impresses in everyday use and maintenance. Two high-quality materials and versatile installation options provide great design freedom. The consistent attention to detail and the strong, timeless design make this project a pioneering solution for discerning kitchen environments.”
SILQUA combines softly rounded transitions inside the bowl with clearly defined, geometric outer contours. Inspired by flowing water, the gentle radii reduce the risk of impact damage and give the sink a pleasantly smooth feel. At the same time, the precise lines emphasise the purist character of the sink. A defining element is the integrated faucet ledge, which serves as a second working level. Embossed drainage grooves aid the targeted water drainage, while the rounded edge further optimises the run-off. Cups, small bowls or the washing-up sponge can be conveniently left to dry here – functionally sophisticated and clearly designed.
Sophisticated details for genuine ease of use
The central positioning of the faucet ensures that your hands remain above the bowl when using it – water dripping from your hands flows directly back into the sink. Positioned to the right of the faucet, the rotational excenter enables convenient opening and closing of the basket strainer valve and blends discreetly into the minimalist overall design.
Overall, the carefully crafted details not only make everyday use easier but also simplify cleaning of the sink itself – a key quality criterion in modern kitchen planning. SILQUA was developed by Naber GmbH in collaboration with Hans Winkler Design, Grafenau. The aim was to create a range of sinks that combines sophisticated design, durable materials and a high level of functionality for everyday use.
Variety of materials, colours and installation types
SILQUA is available in several high-quality material variants, which provides scope for different price ranges and interior design styles. The ceramic versions are available in the colour variants nero, slate, lava, white matt and white gloss. They can be integrated as surface-mounted, flush-mounted or substructure versions. The composite models feature a contemporary selection of granite colours – ranging from granit nero ossidiana to granit terra di agata and granit grigio tormalina to granit bianco howlite.
Optional accessories such as a drip mat, dish drainer and colour-coordinated cover caps for the basket strainer valve round off the system. For ceramic sinks, the cover caps are available in the respective bowl colours; for the composite versions, they are supplied in matt black.
The German Design Award as a platform for global excellence
The German Design Award is the international premium prize awarded by the German Design Council. Since 2012, it has identified key design trends, made them visible and honoured outstanding achievements each year in the fields of product design, communication design and architecture. As a platform for “Connecting Global Excellence”, the award brings together the best international design achievements and showcases their impact worldwide. With the distinction as a “Winner”, SILQUA now ranks among this group of excellent design projects.
Strong signal effect for retail, planning and the public
For specialist retailers, kitchen studios, architects and planners, the “Winner” label provides independent confirmation of high design and product quality. At the same time, the award raises visibility on the consumer market and in the daily press. With SILQUA, Naber underscores its commitment to developing sophisticated and aesthetically appealing solutions for modern kitchens – durable, functional and distinctive in design. The award was received by Martin Staaks, Head of Product Management at Naber, and Designer Hans Winkler on 6 February in Frankfurt am Main at the official German Design Award Show.
